At the time of writing this post, I had sailed to Grand Turk 10 times, with the most recent trip being in August 2019. Six years later, we finally have the opportunity to return for our 11th visit.

If your last time in Grand Turk was prior to 2022, you'll be in for a shock like we were!

The topography completely changed and so did the locations of beach chairs (loungers), especially the free ones. Previously, both sides of the pier featured gentle sloping beaches lined with numerous free loungers.

That's no longer the case. The days of 'front-row' free seating are gone. You’ll now find fewer free loungers, and you’ll need to trek much further past the paid zones to claim a spot. Once you get past Margaritaville, that's where the free beach chairs are located.

The lower outdoor dining deck at Margaritaville is different as well as they removed the couch seating and replaced it with small tables.

The beach to the right of the pier is now called Serenity Beach and has daybeds available for rent with free beach chairs behind them.

The beach to the left of the pier adjacent to the cruise ship (Margaritaville side) has beach chairs with clamshells for rent.

All beach chairs are now elevated above sea level with fences between them and the beach, with most areas requiring stairs to get down to the beach.

Some things are still the same though, Margaritaville, the parrot statue, great views of your cruise ship, shopping and the beautiful clear water!

Grand Turk has officially entered its 'new era.' The topography may have changed and the walk to the water might be longer, but the crystal-clear turquoise views remain the same. Just remember: turn right for the quiet luxury of Serenity Beach, or turn left and keep walking past Margaritaville to find your slice of 'free' paradise.

What about you? Did the post-Fiona changes catch you off guard, or do you prefer the new organized layout? Let me know in the comments!
